Now that the previous lectures have tried to lay a clear fundamentals related to electricity & magnetism. We are almost prepared to get our hands dirty in audio stuff.

An introduction and solid foundation of Electricity & Electronics is very much required as Electricity is the main energy source and medium of transfer & transport of information, whether it is related to audio production or reproduction.

Surprisingly if you look at all the audio technology present, you will find that all these technologies are there just to accomplish a handful of tasks:

1. Audio Recording – deals mainly in amplifying very low level signals picked from from mics and related equipments.
2. Storage of Audio Recording – deals in various mediums viz Record, CD, Computer readable formats etc.
3. Amplification of Audio – deals in reading from a music source, amplifying it and matching to the loudspeaker
4. Modifying the Audio – deals in equalisers, modulations, expansions, dynamic range compression etc.
5. Transmitting the Audio – broadcasting via modulation
6. Playback of Audio through Speakers (In Electrical Engineering terminology, it is called as Electromechanical Transducer)

The noticeable fact is that each of these tasks and areas are accomplished with electricity & magnetism as medium or/and energy source, hence we dedicated some of our time in getting the fun and fundamentals of electricity and magnetism in previous Lectures.

We will be touching upon systematically each of these areas in systematic, practical and interesting manner in subsequent lectures.

Needless to say, signal amplification is ubiquitous and is present at least as a stage in almost any piece of equipment related to audio and hence we will be devoting a lot of time in exploring & learning it subsequently.
